Beauty: Quote by Luci Shaw

“Each of us is called to cultivate beauty, knowing that as artists, and as those with whom we share our creative gifts, we become more whole and healed in that sharing of beauty.”

Snowdrops – Ellen Grace Olinger

the years
that were so hard
and yet
they gave me
my stories

There have been new sorrows since last Easter, with passings of older family members and friends.  The perennials return in spring, and also picture Easter for me.  Some of you saw my new photo of snowdrops yesterday, on my primary blog, Poems From Oostburg, Wisconsin.  They are telling me stories.  One year, they were covered with snow after they bloomed.  The snow melted, and they were still blooming.

This is one of my older poems about loss and renewal.  I am meditating on how the Easter story inspires hope in everyday lives.

I want to live
in the deeper places

where flowers
always get to bloom
at their appointed time

and are loved as much
weathered and dormant
and covered with snow

I want to live
in the deeper places

where loss is felt
tears are cried and
night becomes a friend

and then loss
dies too
new life arrives again

Oh, I want to live
in the deeper places
